We’ve been watching a lot of Christmas movies since Thanksgiving.  Traditionally, that is when Christmas begins in our home.  We love the classics, but I am always looking for new movies that share the biblical account of the birth of Christ that I can watch together with my family.

I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to review The Promise: The Birth of the Messiah, by Glorious Films.  Here is a little bit about this animated musical:

The Promise: The Birth of the Messiah is an animated musical celebration of one of the most pivotal events in all human history, the birth of Jesus Christ. In ancient Israel, during the days of King Herod, a young couple’s world is turned upside down when the prophecy of a long-awaited deliverer unfolds upon their lives. They must trust in God’s promise in the midst of rising challenges, and their faithfulness is rewarded as they witness the most surprising and glorious event of all human history – the promise fulfilled in the birth of the Messiah.

This beautifully crafted musical is a faithful adaptation of the birth narrative from the Gospel of Luke in both story and song. The animated production leverages optical motion technology to blend traditional animation techniques with the performance talents of ballet dancers and dramatic stage actors. The result is a unique and worshipful story experience that will inspire audiences young and old for years to come.

I had the opportunity to watch this animated musical with my family tonight.  I loved it and felt it accurately portrayed the biblical accounts of Christ’s birth.  All of the songs that were sung were straight out of scripture and I especially loved the way “Mary’s Song” was done.  There were a few parts that had me bursting out laughing, just because it seemed as though the song and dance didn’t quite fit, but then again, I believe this movie would be well suited for younger children and well, there were parts that I feel a younger child would find funny.

If you would like a little taste of The Promise, you can watch the trailer below:

I am excited to offer one of my readers a copy of this beautifully animated musical for their family to enjoy.
